Garba Diallo

My life journey started in Mauritania, West Africa where I was born and lived until the age of 19. Since then, I have lived and studied for many years in the Middle East (Qatar) and Scandinavia (Norway and Denmark). In between I have visited many interesting places, where I have met wonderful people with diverse cultural, academic and social backgrounds, opinions and professions.

Thanks to this lifelong learning at the many places I have been to and from the many people I have met and worked with, I have grown into a true citizen of the world with deep roots in Africa and branches spanning the global culture, both vertically and horizontally.

Therefore, for me home is where I feel home, and I can feel home anywhere I can meet and do interesting things with interesting people, regardless of cultural, religious, gender, age or any other natural differences.

In terms of family, I am married to Runa Midtvaage from Norway. We have a 19 year old daughter, Oda-Kange and 14 year old son, Dag-Yero. My extended family resides in West Africa and Norway.

As for my professional life, I develop ideas, enable and facilitate educational activities and dialogue focusing on the key dimensions of globalization: global institutions, conflict management and transformation, media awareness and the climate challenges as a solution to the cross-cutting issues of our time. I enable and coordinate Crossing Borders Global Studies at Krogerup People’s College.  Along with this, I also work as the founding Director of Crossing Borders CB. My core regional focuses are Africa and the Middle East.

Other personal interests include writing, travelling, photography and meeting new people and experiencing new places and approaches.

At Crossing Borders I work primarily with fundraising and project management, but I am also a dedicated trainer. I coordinate the ALII project, the DEMENA Youth Climate Ambassadors and the CB Ghana project concerning the emerging oil economy in Ghana - and its link to Youth Empowerment. My professional field is Education/Learning and Communication, with an international angle - my key areas of interest are within the fields of development work, organisational development, facilitation and media/democracy. I live in an ecovillage, love to travel, enjoy riding horses and easily get inspired by meeting new people.

I am originally from Ecuador and currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Anthropology at the University of Copenhagen. My main interest lay on Development Work, Refugee Youth and the Middle East, where I have recently conducted a 4-month fieldwork in Lebanon. During my student life I volunteered in many social projects in Ecuador and Europe. I am the founder and an active member of bambúProjekt e.V., an NGO engaging street children in my home town of Quito, Ecuador, via visual arts. bambúProjekt engages as well for ecological awareness and it is based in Germany, where I have lived for several years.

In Denmark, I have participated as well in many seminars in leadership training, project management and campaigning with, among others, MS Action Aid and I engage on a regular basis with visAvis, a magazine which facilitates space for the voices on migration and asylum. I am a member of Crossing Borders and have been active since 2008. I was a part of the first CB Global Studies Group at Krogerup People´s College and currently work as a freelance designer and photographer for different CB Projects & Campaigns.
